 Battery Removal and Installation Minimize
  1. Select the size of the new battery which should fit in the vehicle tray and which should have an electrical rating at least equal to the original battery – Refer to the vehicle manufacturer / owner manual to select the proper battery model.

    Warning!

    • It is advisable to always check the battery open circuit voltage and battery state-of-charge before fitting a new battery in the vehicle.
    • When installing or uninstalling batteries, always check that the ignition switch is off.
    • In vehicles equipped with onboard computers, alarms and codes it is advisable to connect in parallel a service battery in order to prevent loosing data from that devices.

  2. Remove the old battery, by disconnecting the ground terminal first (i.e. negative cable from the terminal post), and noting carefully the positive battery terminal location, so that the new battery can be installed in the same manner and to avoid the reverse polarity when reconnecting.
Disconnect the positive cable from the terminal post, remove the battery hold downs and remove battery from the vehicle.
  3. Examine the cables, battery tray, clamps and hold downs.
  4. Replace items damaged and remove any corrosion traces by rinsing thoroughly with water and soap.
  5. Place carefully the new battery in the tray, and make certain the + and – terminals are in the same position in relation to the removed battery to ensure correct polarity.
Replace the battery hold downs and ensure that the cables are of sufficient length to reach the terminal posts. If necessary clean inside the clamp-on connectors.
  6. Connect the cables, positive cable first and tighten it, then the negative cable (grounded) and tighten it. Coat the terminals and clamps with silicon wax or an appropriate terminal protector. Tighten the battery hold down snugly, taking care not to overtighten.

Once the Installation is finished, ensure that the battery is installed correctly, by turning on the ignition key and allowing the engine to run for some seconds to check the vehicle charging system operation.

Checking the Vehicle Charging System:

  1. With gear in neutral and engine on idle measure the stabilized voltage at the battery terminals with a voltmeter.
  2. Turn on all accessories like lights, radio, air conditioning or heating system and take the voltage reading again.

In both steps, a voltage range between 13,8volts (idle) ~ 14,2volts (high revs) means that the electrical system is operating correctly.

  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 at 2.000 ~2.500 rpm and measure the voltage at the battery terminals.
The voltage range should be between 13,8 – 14,2 Volts to ensure a long life and better battery performance.

WARNING!

Below the indicated voltages the battery will tend to become over discharged in the short term.Above these indicated voltages the battery will tend to become dry / overcharged in the medium and long term. When carrying batteries always use the appropriate handles or a lifting tool suitable for the job.
PROBE MF PREMIUM Batteries are fitted with their own built-in carrying handles for better comfort and safe handling.
